Inkheart is a fantasy film directed by Iain Softley. The story was based on the 2003 German novel of the same name by Cornelia Funke. The film was first slated for release on March 19, 2008, but has been pushed back to December 12, 2008 in the UK and January 23, 2009 in the US, partially because of New Line's marketing worries in connection with the now-concluded 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Based on the best-selling book by Cornelia Funke, Inkheart is a fantasy adventure movie that sends a father and daughter on a quest through worlds both real and imagined. The story of the movie focus on the young girl named Meggie the daughter of Mortimer who has a secret ability to bring characters from the book of Inkheart to life when he reads them aloud. (Inkheart is a magical book filled with illustrations of medieval castles and strange creatures. ) Her daughter had this ability as well. But this ability put them in danger, for every character brought to life from a book, a real person disappears into it's pages. And when his daughter was kidnapped by the evil villain Capricorn (the one who wants the other evil fictional characters bring to life), Mo assembles a unique group of friends and allies some real and some magical to embarks dangerous journey to set things right.
